Zero Waste

'He taonga nō te whenua, me hoki anō ki te whenua.'
What is given by the land should return to the land.

We are on a journey towards a Zero-waste childcare facility

  • We are a New Zealand committed childcare centre going towards Zero waste. We support young families in our Pakuranga community to do their bit to protect Papatūānuku “the land”, Tāne “the forests” and Tangaroa “the sea” for our children and future generations.

  • We aim to send nothing to a landfill by reducing what we need, reusing as much as we can, sending little to be recycled, and composting what we cannot.

  • We celebrate our zero-waste achievements by re-using what we can and how much organic waste turns into healthy organic soil since January 2020.

We did it! But that doesn’t mean we’re done. Join our Little Seed community anytime you feel like making a positive impact on our children’s future and improving our environment!

Zero Waste at Little Seed ECE

Activities such as: seed sprouting, planting vegetable gardens, cooking produce and more!

Green housekeeping.
We promote awareness of the environment via ‘green housekeeping practices’ which include: healthy eating, gardening, minimising waste, reducing water and energy consumption.

Recycle & reuse program.
We use recyclable materials where and when possible. We encourage the children to re-use/recycle paper and other materials at home and at our Little Seed centre.
